Fish we provide

California Pond Stocking and Management works directly with its associate Freshwater Fish Company, together our goal is to ensure that you are offered the strongest, and healthiest fish possible. The fish are fed the highest quality diet available and are closely monitored by technicians and laborers who reside at the farm. Freshwater Fish Companies policy is to never use antibiotics, hormones, or pesticides, and to raise their fish in non-crowded conditions. This ensures the quality of their product. We provide an extensive list of species including the following.

Largemouth Bass

Largemouth Bass fingerlings

Northern strain largemouth bass (Micropterus Salmoides) are a popular game fish used to stock ponds and lakes all across the United States. When these fish are stocked properly with an adequate supply of forage fish they may grow as much as 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per year. The spawning season for largemouth bass is the spring to early summer, typically (March-May), they spawn based on water temperatures and external temperatures that create ideal conditions to reproduce. The size availability depends on the time of year. Bass are recommended to be stocked at a quantity of 200 per surface acre.

Channel Catfish

Channel Catfish fingerlings

Channel catfish (Ictalurus Punctatus) are one of the easiest fish to manage in your pond or lake. They can feed on a live forage or you can supplement with a commercial feed. Supplemental feeding will often allow the catfish to achieve growth rates sometimes exceeding 1 1/2 pounds per year. Providing your catfish with commercial feed also allows your forage species to be less pressured. Channel catfish are recommended to be stocked at a quantity of 200 per surface acre.

Hybrid Carp

Hybrid Carp Fingerlings

Hybrid carp are a cross between a female common carp and a male goldfish. They are sterile and do not reproduce. They are extremely hardy to various water conditions. Hybrid carp can grow from 1 to 2 pounds per year. These fish can be highly effective in managing aquatic vegetation when stocked at an adequate density. They also have a diverse diet not interfering with your game fish or forage fish. Hybrid carp require a permit by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to stock in your pond. While being a great addition to your aquatic ecosystem, clients often request hybrid carp for their aquaponics systems. The recommended stocking density for hybrid carp varies depending upon the goals for your aquatic ecosystem.

Bluegill

Juvenile Bluegill

Bluegill (Lepomis Macrochirus) are our most popular forage base for an aquatic ecosystem that maintains game fish such as bass or catfish. They can spawn multiple times throughout a given year primarily during the late spring and summer season. Bluegill primarily consume zooplankton, insects, and other invertebrates. Our bluegill are typically stocked when they are between 1"-4" and are available year around. Large adults may be available occasionally and upon request. The recommended stocking density for bluegill is 400 per surface acre.

Red-eared Sunfish

Juvenile Red-eared Sunfish

Red-eared sunfish (Lepomis Microlophus) are a good substitute or addition to a pond with bluegill, these fish will generally grow to one or two pounds.  Our clients desire to have red-eared sunfish in their lakes because they eat snails. Snails are the primary carrier of the swimmers itch parasite.  Our red-ear sunfish are typically stocked when they are between 1"-4" and are available year around. Large adults are available occasionally, and upon request. The recommended stocking density for red-ear sunfish is 400 per surface acre.

Mosquito Fish

Mosquitofish (Gambusia) live in shallow areas and on the surface of ponds and provide great forage for larger fish.  They are commonly known for their ability to control mosquito larvae. They are live-bearing and produce 3-4 broods per year. The life span is from about six to fifteen months. We have mosquito fish available nearly year around.

White Sturgeon

White Sturgeon Fingerlings

Sturgeon (Acipenser Transmontanus) are a versatile species that given the right conditions can grow to over 100 pounds in eight years. They are unique in that they can live in fresh or saltwater. These fish can benefit your pond by de-rooting aquatic vegetation, also they will clean up after your other fish when supplementing a pond or lake with fish feed. Sturgeon are often sought after for their novelty by our customers for aquaponic systems. Sturgeon are available occasionally, and upon request, we offer limited sizes.

Crayfish

Crayfish (Decapoda) are a great addition to any ecosystem with game fish. They provide additional forage for your game species; they also benefit your ecosystem, like carp or sturgeon, by stirring up nutrients that benefit smaller forms of life. Crayfish are also very popular for human consumption. We have crayfish available seasonally.
